Time and Life

When you hold on for dear life
To a woman that you know should be let go
It’s almost surreal
How simultaneously sad and liberating one event can be
How I roared with laughter to myself
When she called to complain
That her new Beau lacked a certain flavor in the sleeping bag
Myself, left faking a bent shoulder to cry on

I imagine him with all the charm of a drunken dentist
His office in a wax museum
He comes home at night to break airplane bottles of maker’s mark across her red lips
Swollen and bleeding,
She works him over while he slumps in his recliner and stares out at the evening news

I’m still blessed with morning sexual coffee delights
A bouncing gait and probably smirking way too damn much for my own good
But bad memories can still bring on a certain fever of the telling, fallen leaves
My subconscious groans as it imagines her latexing her way across this shattered world
I have dreams about dying and being let down

Funny how something so initially visceral can lead to the realization
That time and life are nothing but a bundle of compressed memories

To Find Your Voice Trailing Off From Behind The Refrigerator

To find your voice trailing off from behind the refrigerator
I thought I stashed your deadness in the attic
Silly me

Her drunken caress enriched me with warmth
Before the bayonet went deep with a twist
Like an olive stuck on a skewer in a martini glass.

An empty fifth of bourbon lay on the bloody mattress

It was an expensive crush to say the least
